Enamul Hoque believes that everyone has a responsibility to give back to the community. It is a belief he puts into practice as president of Hoque & Associates, a consulting engineering firm he founded in 1997.

Enamul views Mother Teresa as a role model. He met the Nobel Peace Prize recipient several times as he volunteered his services for building hospitals and training centers in his native Bangladesh.

At Hoque & Associates, Inc., Enamul heads a diversified staff of 18. Clients include private companies, as well as Arizona municipalities and counties. The company prides itself in finding simple solutions to complex problems.

Employee benefits include flexible work schedules, continuing education opportunities, health and life insurance and a 401k plan. Enamul has trained two laborers to become certified technicians.

An Arizona State University engineering graduate who has worked in the Southwest for 19 years, Enamul is respected for his knowledge of Arizona soil conditions and for innovation in geotechnical engineering.

It has been a remarkable journey for Enamul. Some might view his childhood in the war- and flood-ravaged Bangladesh as deprived. He calls it a blessing. Helping his father work with the poor during floods and famine, he learned the importance of giving back to the community.

"We are not looking to become a billion dollar facility," Enamul says. "Rather, our intention is to provide innovative, cost-effective quality services…while improving quality of life where we can… We define success as being able to put smiles on faces, whether they are owners, clients, employees or society at large."
