MBA Full-time

Supply Chain Management Specialization

Supply Chain Management (SCM) integrates global information and processes across all functions including supply management, operations and logistics—for both internal and external partners. SCM professionals are the agents of change for e-business, manufacturing, high tech, service and consulting companies.

The ability to understand how the “pieces” integrate into the “whole” gives Supply Chain Management graduates a variety of job opportunities. W. P. Carey MBA students who specialize in Supply Chain Management are hired by top companies across the nation, representing manufacturing, service, consulting and business industries.

The Foundation

In the Supply Chain Management specialization, the integration of chains, e-business and globalization permeate each course. This program trains managers who are strategic thinkers, excellent analysts, effective communicators/team leaders, computer competent, and who are focused on cost savings, increasing revenue, and increasing shareholder value.

The Supply Chain Management Specialization consists of an integration of nine required courses (18 credit hours) and three electives (6 credit hours). In the fourth term of the first year, students take their first two required supply chain management classes. Integrated Supply Chain Management provides an intensive overview of Supply Chain Management issues and tools, and Decision Models for Supply Chain Management provides specific spreadsheet-oriented analysis tools that are immediately applicable to supply chain analysis and improvement. These two courses, combined with the MBA core courses, provide excellent background for the internship that W. P. Carey MBA students take during the summer between the first and second year of study.

Integration

Supply chain management classes feature corporate executive speakers and provide numerous experiential learning opportunities. Emphasis in each course is placed on: current best practices, service and manufacturing applications, managerial application, and the contribution of effective supply chain management to successful corporate strategy. A set of themes that integrates the entire curriculum is presented in each course, including:

  • Globalization
  • E-business
  • Teamwork
  • Communication
  • Process orientation/integration of functions
  • The role of effective supply chain management in corporate success

Applied Projects

This specialization emphasizes the importance of project management skills for business success. From November to May, second year supply chain students are teamed to work with a corporate applied project sponsor to apply supply chain best practices to a current problem or opportunity. Each team member is expected to devote up to 15 hours per week toward their project and meet regularly with faculty to review progress and learn the keys to successful project management.
These projects are with companies located both in and outside of Arizona. They uniquely enhance each student's career marketability.
