Activities

The W. P. Carey MBA Volunteer Council does a variety of projects falling into two categories:

  1. Fundraising
    • W. P. Carey MBA Casino Night for Kids - At the W. P. Carey Annual Holiday Party, student, faculty, and staff can gamble for raffle tickets for a variety of prizes. In its first year, the Casino Night had over 350 players. All profits go to our local and national charities.
    • W. P. Carey MBA Bowling for Charity  - Students, faculty, and staff put on their bowling shoes to raise money for our local and national charities.
    • W. P. Carey MBA Golf for Charity - Members of the W. P. Carey MBA community get into the holiday spirit each year by making in-kind donations of new toys and food to members of our local community in need.
  2. Individual Volunteering
There are many ways to volunteer and get involved in activities around the Phoenix metropolitan area. In the past year, the W.P. Carey MBA Volunteer Council has worked with Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, Junior Achievement, and the Make a Wish Foundation. Ronald McDonald House

A Ronald McDonald House® is a temporary home-away-from-home where the families of children being treated for serious illnesses or trauma reside while the child receives treatment at a nearby hospital or medical center. It is also a place where children who are receiving outpatient treatment are able to spend time with their families in a warm and cheerful environment. Families forced to travel a distance to obtain medical care often find that their day-to-day problems are compounded by lengthy separation from home and friends. In order to be close to their children, they may have to choose between paying for expensive accommodations or sleeping in hospital waiting rooms. At a Ronald McDonald House, the families have a place to rest, away from the atmosphere of a hospital, where they can attempt to lead “normal” lives. Parents are able to share their worries and concerns with other parents who can empathetically understand the emotional strain placed upon them and who can offer each other support during times of crisis.
