About the IM Fund

The W. P. Carey MBA Investment Management Fund (IM Fund) was established in 1996 by the Finance Department at Arizona State University. Initial contributions to the Fund were provided by generous private donors and the Arizona State University Foundation Endowment Fund.

The goal of the Fund is to provide participating Master of Business Administration students with practical, “hands-on" experience in portfolio management and securities analysis while they earn credit towards their MBA degrees. In addition. students will be exposed to other aspects of money management, including various administrative duties. A team of students will be selected each year through a competitive process. This team will actively manage the Fund during the second year of their MBA program.

Instead of liquidating investments at the end of each academic year, the Fund will maintain its position in selected investments on a continuous basis. This practice is harmonious with maintaining a portfolio focused on long-term growth, rather than short-term investment appreciation.

The portfolio of investments represents a diverse collection of investment vehicles, ranging from equities to fixed income securities. Equity investments will cover companies that extend across many industries. Derivative products can be included so long as they are used solely for hedging purposes.

As of January 31, 2005, the holdings in the IM Fund had a value of $368,000.For the most recent presentations to the IM Fund Advisory Board please see the link Board Meetings.
