2008 Faculty Awards

HUIZINGH HONORS TEACHER OF THE YEAR
Allan DeSerpa

Professor of Economics

DeSerpa’s Business Honors students are among the best and brightest, including Marshall and Truman Scholars, and his creative and rigorous teaching is instrumental in advancing their careers. One favorite among Honors students is his course in law and economics, taken by many in preparation for law school. He also developed the Active Economics program, which sends undergraduate students into Arizona high schools to discuss economic topics with students.

HUIZINGH OUTSTANDING UNDERGRADUATE TEACHER

William J. Boyes

Professor of Economics

Boyes earns outstanding evaluations from his students with a teaching style that challenges them to analyze issues and think critically. He has taught large lecture sections of principles of economics using an active learning environment, and he teaches both the Honors managerial economics course and economics capstone course using many of techniques developed in his MBA courses.

FACULTY HALL OF FAME

The Faculty Hall of Fame was established in 1977 to recognize retired and semi-retired faculty members who have made extraordinary contributions to the advancement of business education and the W. P. Carey School.

Roger L. Faith

Professor of Economics

This posthumous award recognizes Faith’s more than 20 years of outstanding teaching, mentoring and research, and his national reputation as a leading scholar in public choice economics. His broad mastery of many areas in economics allowed him to teach the widest range of coursework in the department. An outstanding mentor, he chaired numerous committees for graduate thesis work and freely offered his wisdom and guidance.
