Advisor's Welcome
Welcome to the academic advising website of the Department of Economics (ECN) at Arizona State University. The department is administratively located in the W. P. Carey School of Business and offers the Bachelor of Science in Economics degree within this school. Academic advising for students who wish to pursue an economics degree within the School of Business are advised by a staff of full-time professional advisors who may be reached at http://wpcarey.asu.edu/up/majors.cfm.
The Department of Economics also offers two degrees through the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS). Academic advising for students in these degree programs is provided by a designated faculty member in the Department of Economics. Dr. Jerry L. Kingston (Jerry.Kingston@asu.edu) currently is serving in this role. The Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics is intended for students who plan to attend law school or enroll in graduate studies in economics immediately upon graduation. The degree emphasizes strong quantitative training, including three semesters of calculus and a required mathematical economics course. The Bachelor of Science in economics degree is intended for students who plan to seek employment in either the public or private sector immediately upon graduation. This advising web site has been developed to assist a number of students, but it is specifically targeted to those who choose the BA or BS degree program in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. It is organized in the following manner. First, information is provided to assist prospective freshman students who have not yet enrolled at Arizona State University. Second, information is provided to assist prospective transfer students who have not yet enrolled at Arizona State University. Third, information is provided to assist students who are re-entering ASU after an absence of one or more semesters. Fourth, information is provided for continuing students who are enrolled, or who may choose to enroll, in the BA or BS degree programs in economics. Finally, a list of web sites by source is provided to further assist students in their transition to ASU or to facilitate their progress towards an economics degree, once enrolled.
